Liberia in Pictures: Work

So Liberia...Bong (yes, bong hehehe) County to be exact:

Co-worker party!
Moving the party outside!
At my desk
We spend A LOT of time in that car
Taking a break in Bong Mines
Homework time in the Library

Sexual and Reproductive Health Training
Granny who learned to read and write in our classes

So what exactly do I do? Well, I'm a Peace Corps Response Volunteer but I work for an organization called CESLY. CESLY works out of the Liberian Ministry of Education to provide either accelerated learning programs for youth (read, teenagers) and adults wanting to get their sixth grade certificate or youth and adults wanting to take part in our non-formal education programs that teaches them to read, write, and do basic math. Pretty cool stuff, right? We also help facilitate women's groups, hence the sexual and reproductive health trainings, and we have a Learning Resource Center (LRC) in Gbarnga. We've got a library and a computer lab in the LRC. I basically support the programs that CESLY runs in the Bong County field office and LRC.

Liberia has it's challenges but I don't think I've ever experienced anything more inspiring then pulling into at village at 9 o'clock at night and seeing a bunch of adults, who have worked all day, sitting in a classroom with flashlights learning how to read and write. Amazing stuff and I'm so glad to be a part.
