Words on...Life at the Moment

 My life in a bucket

Feeling like my life was held in a bucket
And someone tossed the contents out on the road
Funny thing is, I knew it was coming
Knew for two years that everything would be due now
   Things would finish
   Goodbyes would be said
Job hunts would begin, and seemingly never end
   Craigslist apartment searching would commence
Decisions would have to be made without being able to predict the future

But I still feel scattered on the road
Welcoming the change but wishing the transition would be over SOON
Hoping that someday the circumstances of my life won’t control my emotions and my
   image of God
Thankful for the few things getting me by
   My confidants near and far
4 songs on the newest Mumford and Sons release (1,2,10,12)
Long walks after work by the graveyard (perspective!)
   Ice-cream,coffee, and Edy’s strawberry popsicles
Hope that I’ll accept that life is hard and enjoy it anyway

Proverbs 14:1

A wise woman builds her house
She builds it on love
the strength that will get her through being alone
her hopes for the future
bricks made of chocolate
Or chips, if she is the salty girl type.

She builds it on working hard and resting well
words of those that came before
adventures that inspire
new languages she has learned
risks she is so glad she took
And in the end, on risks she wishes she hadn't taken.

She builds it on fear that comes with the unknown
warmth that his smile creates
the kitchen counter, along with dinner
excitement of doing something new
wisdom that comes with age
While embracing the gray hairs that come along with it all.

She builds it on books piled high next to the bed
mistakes, so many mistakes
feeling beautiful in that dress
healing that comes through faith
the road to the future
A future that makes sense in her wise woman house.

  1. I remember these poems, and they're so great. Good luck gearing up for Liberia! Oh, and thanks for turning me on to Mumford and Sons. White Blank Page is freakin' awesome!

  2. Glad the M and S following is spreading to Micronesia! They should be everywhere...in fact M and S for president is what I say!
